Vintage at Bunkers kicks off…with 37 backpackers picking about 8 tonnes of Semillon for the Bunkers Sparkling! As for the rest of the ingredients, we hope to pick around 10 tonnes of Chenin Blanc on Friday.
We had 60mm of rain on the 19th and 20th of Jan and it has worked more in our favour than against us which is great! With the reds going through veraison, a big drink was just what they needed to help them colour up evenly and in some soil types they may need no more water to get them to harvest. Most of our white varieties stood up to the rain as they were still a bit hard and green, so a good freshen up from the rain and away we go! Some areas were less fortunate than Margaret River receiving up to 200mm of rain leading to split fruit and a big increase in disease pressure.
Up until this point it has been a fantastic growing season with very little rain, lots of sunshine, with very few prolonged bursts of heat.
So fingers crossed it now stays dry and warm right to the end!
