VINTAGE CONDITIONS: The 2018 growing season was characterised by above average winter rains followed by a dry spring free of high winds that led to good flowering and fruit set. Slightly cool and dry conditions prevailed into summer leading to long and consistent ripening. These were ideal conditions for our reds with a fine Indian summer that help develop excellent colours and fine tannin structures in the final wine.
VINEYARDS: Our Tempranillo vineyards are in the warmer northern Margaret River zone with gravel soils over an ironstone base. All vines are vertically shoot positioned and run in north south aspect.
VINIFICATION: Machine picked grapes were fermented in static fermenter and pumped over daily. On dryness, the wine was run to seasoned American oak barrels. A 10% addition of carbonic maceration material was added after 15 months oak maturation.

Huon Hooke – The Real Review: “Deep purple/red colour, with a smoky char-oak led bouquet while the palate is firm and quite big on tannin, concluding with a decent chew. It’s full-bodied and hearty, with generous oak and tannin but it’s all in good balance. It would benefit from a year or two in a cool, dark place.”

The West Australian – Ray Jordan: “I think this cooler vintage has really helped this variety. I love the elegant understated characters here with those spicy raspberry notes working with the sweet vanillin American oak. Lovely wine for drinking now.” (2017 vintage)

Halliday Wine Companion – Erin Larkin: “Silky and juicy aromatics of raspberry, mulberry, hints of violet and vanilla pod. Quite delicious. Perfect ripeness is marbled throughout this wine, the tail speaking of succulent forest fruits and red berries. The flavour complexity stops short of cascading, but in terms of satisfaction and beauty – this is spot on.”
